I would like to have inherited a healthy, well kept planet from the generations before me. I would like to have not had to worry about global warming and how to put an end to it. Carelessness has become part of human life style, we no longer care about growing our own food. We only have to care about that cute purse and top at the mall that has to be ours! My one question to everyone is: Is this how we all want to live? Do we really have to care about a shirt made in a sweatshop more than global warming, something that has become a topic in every conversation everywhere? Ponder this question and take action...now! Adults of the previous generations have provided us with a problem that needs to be solved, it shouldn't be that way but it is and it's up to us to figure out 'green' ways of living. It's up to our generation and the generation after us to put global warming to a stop in its tracks and help nurse it back to health.

There are so many people in the world that a large group would have to decide together what they are going to do with the world. In the US and Canada the people and the governments are trying to reduce pollution. I think that most of the ideas that they have are awesome and I hope that these acts will help the world now and in the future. When I think of inheriting the world from today's adults I think of inheriting a house. When the adults that had the house before me lived in it, they should have been responsible enough to dust the house, clean up the bathroom, washed the dishes and inform me, the next owner, of all the house's problems and flaws. If they spill oil on the carpet they should try to clean it up as best as they could. When they make a hole in the wall they should fill it in and fix it. If the lights are using all the energy the house has, the owners should change to more efficient light bulbs. I know I would do my best to keep my house, the world, clean so that the people that will get my house after me will love it and follow my example. My actions will make a difference even if I am only one person. Look at Terry Fox. He was only one person yet he has made such a big difference!

I would really appreciate it if we were given at least an intact world. I wouldn't want to fight our fathers' war that I had little say about because I wasn't old enough. However I will be older when some of the consequences strike. In the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan children have suffered the most. They didn't get to say if they were willing to continue a war when they become of age, they didn't get to say if they wanted their homes attacked. My future is at the mercy of the choices of those in charge now. Look at the condition of the environment. There are huge landfills, and pollution and all those adults who didn't have to care about the environment because it wasn't an issue then and now we are the ones who clean it up. I want a world that gives me every opportunity I can have. I like to research animals and by the time I have the opportunity to see a wild polar bear, I may not be able to because they may be extinct by then. Who were those before me who made the choice that I would never see a dodo bird. Who knows maybe if they were still around I would. In a world that I would want to leave my future children.it would have to be one that they can see the immense beauty on earth to help them stay away from the evil. They deserve to see the good things in life that those before them took for granted because they were common and therefore uncared for.

I would like an eco-friendly, green planet that is striving in important areas. I would like a few problems, so we could still learn and know how to work together effectively when more is at stake, but I would not want financial and global crisis like right now. I would want to live somewhere that is violence-free and against animal cruelty (hunting, chickens in cages in factories, etc.) and somewhere where homeless people don't exsist because everyone has a roof to stay under when it rains. And somewhere where no one is hungry!

Responding to the professor's question, I think I would like my parents or the adults of today's world to leave a world where we can work to develop and to prosper. Not exactly a world that the achievements have been done already, but a world where we can start, with the environmental problems aced and the economy under the track by us. I'm sure that every parent would like their child to live in a safe world. But when I become a parent and have children, I want them to strive, to help the human race generate their abilities to survive.

The kind of earth that I want to have for a long time would be free and full of life. When I say “Full of life,” I mean full of animals and plants. It would be beautiful! Here is one thing that is in our way and how we could prevent it from happening. Habitat loss is a big thing in our way. We are knocking down animal homes! To build! How would you feel if someone knocked down your home just to build something! Without permission! Well here is how we could prevent it. We could build smaller houses and leave more land. Or build one BIG building and have more people live in it. If we could fix this, then my future children and me could learn more about animals because there would be more around. It would be so cool! I wish we had the kind of earth I want to have.

The kind of world I would like adults to leave for us (kids)is a world where everything balances out. When I say balances out, I mean a world were animals are not killed deliberately and humans aren’t either, and if an animal dies, a new one would be born. This cycle would keep our animal population consistent and even. The type of world I would love to see is a world were canadian governments would do something about the fact that glaciers and arctic sea ice are disappearing, rising oceans are threatening coastal communities, forest fires, storms and floods are more devastating and more frequent. If the government doesn’t do anything about the environment we should take charge instead. For example the Greenpeace kicked off our election by posting emails to 92,000 members in Canada with an appeal to vote for the environment.

In response to the professor's question, I would hope that the world left for me would be one where I can enjoy the diversity of animal life that we can enjoy today. I would hate for the only memories of great animals and habitats to be relegated to books and television. In our home,we try our best to conserve energy and waste, although more could always be done. People will read articles such as Mr. Smith's, and will think in their minds " Oh, that's so sad." and will then forget about it. There are many people who are doing great things to help species diversity, and I think that's awesome, but more people need to step up and do what they can to help our world in any way. Unless we act now to preserve our earth, the world our children will live in will be one where the great, diverse species of today will be something they will only see in books and movies. This is a sad thought, and the world needs to realize it. Once a species is extinct, we can never have it back again.

Anwsering the professor's question, I strongly beleive that today's adults should take a stand and stop all the pollution. When myself and the other kids in my class are older and have children of our own, I know I do not want to bring my kids into a dirty, polluted, and dull world. I am very greatful for the work that my family does to help this world, each week on garbage day we put out our reduced garbage and our recycling bins. Other goals that I think today's adults, children and teens should strive for to help out our world are working towards putting an end to poverty, animal testing, and child labour. I cannot even start to imagine what this once beautiful world will become if not all of us work harder than we do to stop these issues that are bringing this world down. I work hard on a daily basis, and I will not give up because I know what this world could be like if we all lend a hand.

Answer:
My ideal planet would probably not be your utopia. The attempt to create heaven on earth is doomed to fail, because we have different ideas of what heaven would be like. As our (the children of tomorrow’s) society becomes more diverse, the possibility of our agreeing on one plan for the whole planet becomes even more remote. And in any case, we can't possibly anticipate the changes that progress will bring. Utopian plans always involve a static and rigid vision of the ideal planet, a vision that can't accommodate a dynamic world. We can no more imagine what civilization will be like a century from now than the people of 1900 could have imagined today's civilization. What we need is not utopia, but a free society in which people can design their own communities. Some communities could make stricter rules, but the legal order of the whole society would punish only violations of the rights of others. One community might offer a high level of services and amenities, with correspondingly high prices and fees. Another may be designed for those who prefer to save their money. One might be organized around a particular religious observance. Those who entered one community might forswear alcohol and tobacco. Other people might prefer something where guns and hard drugs are banned but soft drugs are tolerated and all decisions are at least theoretically made in communal meetings. Many people might choose a "utopia" very similar to today's small-town, suburban, or center-city environment, but we would all profit from the opportunity to choose other alternatives and to observe where we would like to live most.

I think that this question raises an excellent point. I want my children to see the world and the wildlife as I see it. With at least 1/4 of the world's wild mammal species at risk of extinction and all the pollution happening, I don't think my kids are going to have a happy future to look forward to. With so many species at risk of extinction and so many mammals losing their habitats because of over-harvesting and hunting, how do we know how many of these living wonders our children would see? The truth is, we don’t. The task at hand though is how will we change our economy and our planet so our children can experience the joy of having such majestic animals like the great Canadian Moose or the white wonder, the Polar Bear just a photo shot away? I’ll tell you how, CHANGE OUR HABITS! I speak for myself and perhaps for others when I say, my childhood would have been drastically changed without seeing the black bear in the bush in northern Ontario or seeing the amazing killer whale at Marineland or the deer running through the fields in the countryside. I am just relieved that I am not the only one wanting a change. The IUCN is also hoping to save our wild life and make a brighter future for our children. I just have one last thing to say. With all this pollution and species extinction we have to keep something in mind, our children’s future hangs in the balance, what will we do to make sure it is a happy one? It’s your choice, I know what I’m doing to better my child’s future, do you?

I think some people are going overboard in trying to save the environment. It'ss true a world with no animals would be horrible, but it'ss not like they are that endangered. The IUCN say that polar bears are dying up in Nunavut because the ice is melting and the seals are farther out. That's a lie. The bears are thriving, and there is actually the need to hunt to keep the population down! I want to leave my kids a good world when I die but that can happen on its own. There has been a global warming before and nothing awful happened, I think everyone should just read their history book a bit more and pick up their garbage and then they will discover that global warming won't harm them any more than it harmed the vikings. Our kids will have a great world just like us and people should stop worrying long enough to enjoy it.

The world that I would like the adults to leave us would be a planet where you can’t see garbage all over the place. I would like them to leave us a peaceful planet where people don’t care what coloured skin people have. I would also like it if today’s adults wouldn’t leave their car engine on when they’re parked on the side of the road or where they won’t keep their car engine on for 5 minutes heating up the car. A world that I will try to leave my kids is a peaceful place where people would stop robbing homes and stores. I would try to make sure that the animal species will not become extinct so my kids could see all of the different animals and know what they were like and what they ate. Another thing that I would do to try and do for my kids is to help stop the pollution and the wars. I would try to do all of this because I want everybody to live in a peaceful planet and a clean one.

I think that the quote by Professor Andrew Smith, from the University of Arizona State, pretty much sums up the entire topic of the epidemic of endangered mammals. The mammals that are endangered may one day be extinct. Those animals will never come back. They will only remain in history books and museums. The only thing that can stop it is the human race. We are the main reason that the animals are endangered in the first place. This snowball of mistakes was started by our grandparents, continued by our parents and has to stop with us, the youth of today and the future of tomorrow. I don’t want to live in a world where there are no panda bears and siberian tigers. I especially don’t want my kids reading about blue whales like how I read about dodo birds. To finish, I believe it is the youth of the world's turn to stop the snowball of endangered animals and bring peace to the world’s ecosystem.

The kind of world I would like for my children is non-polluted, violence-free and no animal habitat destruction in the world. As you can see today, war is happening in Afghanistan and we are polluting the earth everywhere! Right now as I speak, construction companies are cutting trees down to make paper and houses but as they are carrying on their work, they don’t know that they are destroying many animals' habitats. I don’t want the ancient coral reefs to be wretched just because we pollute the water. I don’t want people to kill animals for a sport or game. I may wish many things for the world to be for my children but saying is obviously easier than doing. So I hope we can just make the world a better place to live and all pitch in to help either if you are throwing away your garbage, installing solar panels or decide to just donate money. One little hand may not seem much help, but when millions and millions of hands join together, we can definitely make our world a more relaxing place for our children to live in.

I would like today’s adults to leave this world in wonderful condition with animals that are not in great danger and lots of plants, as well as a happy and safe environment that is enjoyable for everyone. I think that the adults should do this because they grew up in a safe world and they didn’t have a lot to worry about. Therefore, it seems only fair that they do the same for us. When I am in my teen years, I want to be able to go outside and to breathe the fresh air and to know that today’s adults did that for us as well as knowing that there are still safe animals that are NOT close to being extinct like the Hainan gibbons. I think that they can do something good about that as well as other problems like global warming. That is the kind of world that I would like today's adults to leave for me. When I grow up and have children, I want to leave them a world like I am growing up in...(except for problems like global warming and endangered species). Just the same as I do, I want them to wake up in the morning and know that they are safe. It wouldn’t be fair if they had to worry about various things and we didn’t. Not only do I want to leave an environmentally friendly world that is safe, but I would also like to leave a world that has new inventions and new discoveries. That would be cool because they could have new things to do and to see, but I wouldn’t want everything to be discovered for them because then they wouldn’t learn as much. That is the kind of world that I would like to leave for my children.

Answer:
I agree with this opinion because it gets you thinking about how the world is going to be when we have children of our own if we continue to pollute and not be eco friendly like we do too often. This is a great thing to think of because you know ahead of time what you have to do to keep the earth clean. If you want to leave a better earth for our children you must pick up litter, reduce, reuse, and recycle, and use your compost bins. Over the years the earth has been polluted and we have to stop that. The point is, we just send all of our garbage to a landfill and that landfill pollutes. The pollution is destroying the ozone layer and it is not going to stop being destroyed until people use their common sense and manage their trash. We live in a pretty good time because pollution is only just starting to become a problem and we have had relatively good lives. But what are our children's lives going to be like if we keep polluting? Well, the ozone layer will be destroyed at an alarming rate, it will be warmer than it should be due to the sun and our children won't have lives half as good as ours. In conclusion we have to find better ways to reduce our trash. I personally would like to leave a just as good if not better world for my children. What do you want for your children? A world that has been destroyed by pollution or a world that is still clean and pristine? If you want your kids to enjoy their lives, get involved! Start recycling, and being earth friendly.

The world that I want my parents to leave me is a good one. A world were everyone is active. I think there should not be so many people just driving down the road to work. More people should walk and not always take the easy way out. I do not want a world full of pollution, and every step you take you are stepping on garbage. Each and every person should follow the three R's. I think I deserve a good world too. I do not think my parents should be out there making the world a better place for me, unless I am prepared to keep on making the world a better place to leave for my children and their children. I do not think I should get a better world then the next generation. We all deserve an equal world. No one deserves better or worse then anyone else. In the end if you want a better world do not just sit there and do nothing. Do something about it. Even though I am just a kid, that does not mean that I can not start to save the world from pollution or other problems. Stand up and be loud, make a change right now. Do not do it later, what if there is no later?

The world today is an interesting place. There are many advantages and many disadvantages. One way or another I am sure every parent wishes for their children to live in an equal or better world from what they lived in. To see wild life for what it is and for the animal population to stay alive and not become extinct. To have a successful life, and for the green house effect and many other environmental problems to be fixed, or at least reduced to a sustainable level. To walk outside and breathe in fresh air and not pollution, and to walk down the street and not step in a pile of garbage. So in other words what all parents want for their children is to have a great life when they leave the world.

I don't want the adults of this generation to kill off all of the diverse species. I want the world to be full of unique animals from the Artic polar bear, to the rainforest chimpanzee, to the desert camel. Why would I want to be left with a gross polluted planet that has little diversity? If all of the world's diversity was gone it would be like only ever having chocolate cake for your dessert, wouldn't you rather have some varitey, have some marble cake or some tofu cheesecake. As a person growing up in today's society I am honestly disappointed with the way that the future looks. For one thing the economy is in a state of utter disarray and nobody in power seems to want to do anything about it. SecondlyIi feel that not enough is being done to stabilize or maintain our ecosystems. Do not get me wrong, I love a big city as much as the next person. I might even like skyscrapers more than nature, due to the fact that I want to become an architect. But I feel that since it is a scientific fact that we need our earth's ecosystem to survive, I feel that more should be done to help endangered animals. However, I must admit that nature takes up the least of my focus at the moment, and as the economy deteriorates and terrorist attacks continue, I cannot see that changing.

A lot of animals are endangered these days and more and more are becoming extinct. The kind of world I want to leave my children is a world where mammals that are in the zoo are still native in the wild. It would be really sad if future generations didn’t have as many mammals in the wild as we do now. With all the mammals that are disappearing, it’s wreaking havoc on their surrounding ecosystem. Take an example, the polar bear. If they become extinct then seals will overpopulate –because they don’t have a predator- and a lot more fish will be eaten because of the over-abundance of seals. If we take better care of what we do to mammals –and ultimately the earth- then maybe animals won’t be in so much danger.
