If I was offered an aid position in Afghanistan I would have to decline the invitation. I don't believe that Canada should even be over there. As far as I can tell it's not Canada's problem. Is it really worth losing all these soldier's lives being peace keepers in another country? Canada should come first not Afghanistan. I do not support this war, so therefore I would have to refuse an aid position over there. I also feel that life is too short to be spent in a war where death is an everyday possibility. Canada will have to find someone else to go and aid the soldiers.

In a heartbeat I would accept this invitation to help Afghanistan. Serving other countries that are less fortunate than ours could show how much being free and out of war means to me and my country. For me the opportunity to help those that can't help themselves would be a great honor. Being an aid worker for an agency would be such a good experience knowing nothing but peace for my entire life and always having a good health care system, this chance could open my eyes and help me realize what is really going on in life. This is a chance of a lifetime that I would not turn down.

I would go to help because without aid workers children would die of poor health and disease. Children would also not be educated. People would be forced to live on the streets because their houses would be destroyed and there would be no one there to rebuild them. I would be willing to risk my own life to save the lives of many others. That is why I would go to Afghanistan to help with an aid agency.

If I was offered the opportunity to work in Afghanistan with an aid agency, I would decline the opportunity, but would look for other resourceful ways I could help as a Canadian citizen. If I felt safer in the country I was travelling to and hadn’t read about the deaths of Jacquie Kirk and Shirley Case, the two Canadian aid workers with the International Rescue Committee, I might be more inclined to accept this invitation to help people living in poverty in Afghanistan. When I read the article entitled,“Dark Days in Afghanistan,” it really made me think about the type of conditions the average Afghan teenaged girl must live in. She would most likely not be going to school, not have enough to eat, might be an orphan, and she’d live in constant fear of a Taliban uprising or terrorist attack. Sometimes, as teenagers, we think we can’t make a difference, but if we think creatively and collectively, there’s a lot we can do,such as fundraising and talking about the plight and struggles of the Afghan people. We’re so lucky to live in Canada and to be able to wake up and go to school, enjoying the time we spend with friends and family. Reading this article and thinking about the idea of working as an aid worker in Afghanistan made me appreciate my own world that much more and realize we should do all we can to help the innocent people of Afghanistan.

If I was offered the opportunity to work in Afghanistan to work with an aid agency, I think that I would accept the invitation. I believe it is a great chance to help soldiers and support them. On the other hand, it would be very dangerous, as many innocent people have died already, sacrificing their lives to help others. Even though it would be highly dangerous, I would still go because I believe in peace and no war. It would be a great opportunity!

Accept!!!!! I would love to go to Afghanistan! I am very frustrated about what's going on there, the terrible war ruining everything they have. Afghanistan is a really poor country and it's horrible to see it being destroyed. I absolutely want to help. Innocent people are getting killed and I want to do something about it. I bet there's lots of people that want to help to but are too scared to risk their life. But I don't care! I will take the risk to do that because I am helping someone in need. They need our help!! I want to make a difference, help people so they could live a life like me with freedom!! Being a part of the Aid agency would be a great chance to look at how kids like me live which would be an awesome opportunity!

I think working with the aid agency in Afghanistan would be very dangerous but we have many soldiers from Canada who risked their lives to help save the population in Afghanistan. I would certainly agree to this special opportunity because I have cousins that have been affected by the war and I know how they feel. I also know it feels great to live in a country with peace and no violence. Many Canadians have lost a family member during this war and I want to help, at least, save some of their lives. It'll also feel awesome to have a full family rather than living in sorrow. There are many younger children, older, and even my age, and I want to help them find a better future for themselves. This is an excellent opportunity for me to show that I am eager to help out and I won't give up! We all need PEACE to live! I will be happy to help bring peace to Afghanistan!!!

Accept!!!!!!!!! I would accept this opportunity because I would love to go to my home country and help them out. My plan for the future is to become a doctor or nurse and if I accomplish this goal then I would also have the skills. I believe that all countries should get the help they need. I am really frustrated with what is going on in Afghanistan and I would do whatever I can to help my home country. Afghanistan has a lot of innocent people and I am thinking about all those people getting hurt for no reason. Overall, I would love to go to Afghanistan as an Aid Worker and see my home country for the first time.

If I were given the opportunity to work in Afghanistan with an aid agency, I would have to turn it down. As much as I approve of the work they are doing there, I haven't read anything on how they've been asking for our help. Why give it to them when they're openly and strongly stating they don't want our help. If they want the freedom to govern as they choose, who are we to step in and get in the way? I would have no problem at all if they welcomed us and helped us with our work, but sadly, the majority thinks differently. If the Taliban would only be a little more helpful and a little more peaceful, I would gladly accept the offer. The two women who were shot was their way of telling us they want us out of their country and, out of respect, I believe we should heed this warning and evacuate before more killings such as these occur. Again, I would like to make it clear that I am not against the work and the initial cause of the aid agencies, I completely agree with them, but not at the unnecessary cost of people's lives. And definitely not when they are unwanted.

Were I given the opportunity to work in Afghanistan, I would be driven to decline. The fatal risks are simply too great. The Taliban don't just shoot innocent civilians from their own country, they also target workers from Western countries who come to Afghanistan to help the situation. Just this past August, three aid workers were killed; what would make their murderers decide any differently if it were me? Personally, it seems to me that the stability Canadian troops are trying to establish in Afghanistan has been rather futile. Yes, I realize that schools have been built, landmines have been cleared, police have been trained, and food, shelter, and vaccinations have been distributed to the country's citizens, but have their efforts really decreased the violence there? I don't think so. al-Qaeda members refuse to accept Canada's offer to rebuild Afghanistan, and continue to attack both civilians and military personnel to gain back the power they possessed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The death of nearly 100 Canadian soldiers is not worth it. Canadian troops need to come home, and since Afghanistan has rejected our help, I feel we are just forcing ourselves on an unappreciative country. However, I think Canada should still uphold its peace-keeping name and help to calm civil strife in other parts of society and the world. I, too, am willing to help bring aid to hurting areas of the world, especially here in Canada. But at the moment, heading to Afghanistan seems way too risky and just a little bit hopeless.
