A diagnostic tool used in hospitals has given researchers an inside look at one of ancient Egypt’s best-preserved royal mummies. The 3500-year-old mummified remains of Amenhotep I were digitally unwrapped using computed tomography, better known as a CT scan.
Preserved in time
Amenhotep I ruled Egypt from about 1525 to 1504 BC. His 21-year reign was mostly peaceful.
According to hieroglyphics on the coffin, priests had rewrapped Amenhotep three centuries after his death to repair damage made by graverobbers. They did a superb job.
