Facebook has paused its plans for Instagram Kids. The social media giant announced it was working on a kid-friendly version of the popular photo-sharing app for tweens in March. It has faced a storm of opposition from child advocates, mental health experts, legislators, and parents ever since.

Instagram critics raised privacy and safety concerns, and cited studies that show Instagram is toxic for teens. Do kids need another addictive app to boost their screen time? they asked. Is this just a way to hook kids on Instagram at a younger age?
