On October 3, Manitoba elected New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Wab Kinew. He is the first First Nations provincial premier in Canada.

A majority government

Mr. Kinew and the NDP received almost 60 percent of the vote. The party won 34 of the 57 seats in the provincial legislature, giving it a majority government.

The Progressive Conservative (PC) Party, which had been in power since 2016, won 22 seats. It will form the Official Opposition. The Liberal party won one seat.
