Joseph Novak has a chest full of medals. It’s hard to imagine the 98-year-old Second World War veteran as a soldier. After all, the war in which he won the medals ended 76 years ago.
On October 20, he added another medal to his collection – the French Legion of Honour.
The Legion of Honour is France’s highest honour, awarded on behalf of the president of France. General Benoît Puga, grand chancellor of the National Order of the Legion of Honour, flew to Whitehorse to present the award, which recognizes Mr. Novak’s role in the liberation of France.
