The world wastes a billion tonnes of food a year. If you laid it all out, it would cover an area the size of China, the fourth largest country in the world. We’re throwing away the equivalent of a billion meals a day.

“Food waste is a global tragedy,” said Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). “Millions will go hungry today as food is wasted across the world.”

What a waste!

A third of the world’s food supply never makes it to the table. About 13 percent is damaged on its way from farm to store.
