On May 5, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Louise Arbour will become the 31st governor general of Canada. He declared that Ms. Arbour “will represent the best of Canada to our citizens and to the world.”

Ms. Arbour is set to take over from current Governor General Mary Simon. This will make her the third consecutive woman to step into the role.
