On March 28, the Canadian men’s soccer team met Jamaica in its second-last qualifier for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

This was the game that would clinch Canada’s place. The players on the field singing O Canada knew it. The sellout crowd filling Toronto’s BMO Stadium knew it, too. Even their competitors saw it coming, but there was nothing they could do to stop it.
