Pull out your red shirts and Canada flags. The FIFA Men’s World Cup is about to begin, and for the first time in 36 years, Canada will be there.
The World Cup is played every four years. Canada clinched its spot at Toronto’s BMO Field back in March, after trouncing Jamaica 4-0 in front of a sellout crowd. Now the Canadian team is heading to Qatar for soccer’s biggest event.
More than 200 countries belong to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Only the top 32 men’s national teams make it to the World Cup.
