On March 4, members of the United Nations (UN) reached a historic agreement. The new High Seas Treaty will protect marine biodiversity in international waters. It will also tackle the problems of pollution, overfishing, and climate change.

Nichola Clark, an oceans expert at the Pew Charitable Trusts, calls it “a once in a generation opportunity to protect the oceans — a major win for biodiversity.”
